About American Bison Sculpture

Fibreglass American Bison

When the Europeans began moving to America way back in the 18th and 19th centuries, the American Bison, then numbering about 50 million, did not know that their population and kind was about to be endangered. The settlers hunted them for food, sports, and commerce more than what was necessary until sometime in 1889, only a little more than 1,000 bison existed in entire North America.

Conservation and protection efforts however have allowed this oft-mistaken animal for a buffalo to multiply at a good number, though no longer as many as 50 million in the past yet enough to stabilize the ecosystem and to save them from extinction.
