Koalas are a unique marsupial native to Australia, known for their distinctive appearance and tree-dwelling lifestyle.

  • Koalas primarily eat eucalyptus leaves, which provide limited nutrition and require them to sleep up to 18-22 hours a day to conserve energy
  • They inhabit eucalyptus forests in eastern and southeastern Australia. Their habitat is increasingly threatened by urban development, deforestation, and climate change.
  • Koalas are generally solitary animals but have overlapping home ranges. They communicate through vocalizations and scent markings
  • Female koalas typically give birth to one joey a year, which stays in the mother’s pouch for about six months before gradually becoming independent
