Symbol of Extinction- Educational prop
Sadly, this ground dwelling Dodo bird became extinct over 300 years ago. This display sculpture is a reminder of the need to conserve biodiversity. It’s approximately 3.3ft high.
More than any other bird, the dodo embodies the fragility of island ecosystems and the irreversible impact of humans on large animals. It reminds us that even the mightiest creatures can vanish in a flash of ecological upheaval.

The Dodo bird is a lesson to us all about the need to conserve native species. Found by the Dutch around 400 years ago on the island of Mauritius, the Dodo became extinct less than 80 years later. This was due to deforestation, hunting, and destruction of habitats by introduced species.
Scientists have only recently managed to piece together clues about its life and habits (read about the secret life of the dodo). This dodo bird sculpture catalyses conversation about conservation and human impact on ecosystems, so it’s a good educational tool and a unique piece of natural history art.
