Public art to admire and climb on!
This large steel-reinforced concrete sculpture in Coffs Harbour sits in the park at Jetty Foreshores. A whale vertebra inspired the sculpture’s basic shape. Its abstract curves reflect a range of shapes from local surroundings, such as clouds, reefs and views.
The sculpture was designed by artist John Van der Kolk for Coffs Harbour Council’s public art collection and was made and installed by Natureworks. You can read the artist’s statement about Cloud Reef here.
The sculpture was designed for children to play on, so it was installed with a soft surround play surface. You can see the sculpture in Coffs Harbour if you visit the park. The sculpture is a great testament to the power of public art.
