A Rare, Colourful and Fascinating Flower – 60cm
The Pungapong Flower sculpture features a realistic deep burgundy-red spathe (outer petal-like structure) with a wrinkled, leathery texture that mimics the natural form. At its centre, the spadix (upright structure) is a textured yellow-grey column, replicating the plant’s unique appearance during bloom. The base includes carefully sculpted details of its bulb-like root structure emerging from the earth.
Painted with natural hues, including dark reds, purples, and earthy tones, the sculpture reflects the flower’s appearance as it emerges from the forest floor during the wet season. Subtle colour transitions and surface textures bring the sculpture to life.
In nature, its infamous rotting-flesh scent attracts flies and beetles, which help pollinate the flower. While Natureworks’ reproduction won’t offend noses, gardeners with a twisted sense of humour can cleverly add decomposing organic materials (like fake roadkill or old meat) at its base to enhance realism and attract real insects for an interactive 4D experience.
