Who says Santa Claus should always be jolly and pump? There are no actual photos of the beloved Christmas icon.

According to historians, however, the real Santa was actually a saint from Turkey who fiercely protected children from slavery, prostitution, and poverty. He was a much-beloved saint because of his compassionate and kind actions for children.

With that being said, St. Nicholas may not have looked like the grandfatherly Santa with a fluffy white beard and huge belly that we know today. Like this fiberglass statue, he could have been skinny and tall. One thing’s for sure, however, Santa Claus is a beloved feature by both kids and adults.
