The male red deer (Cervus Elaphus), known as a stag, is one of the largest known deer species. It’s the fourth in line from sambar deer, moose, and elk. On average, it grows to about 250 cm long and can weigh up to 240 kg.
While most deer are dark or light brown in colour, the red deer’s fur turns reddish-brown in the summer then greyish brown in the winter. Just like other deer species, it has majestic antlers that grow long and branched. These antlers are mainly used for fighting as well as to attract female deer or dogs during mating season.
Thanks to their resemblance to their reindeer cousins, red deer can add great depth to life-sized Christmas decorations. Add a majestic red stag or even a deer family alongside Santa’s sleigh to elevate the setup altogether. They can also be added as animals in a manger for a life-like depiction of the Nativity.
