It’s hard to imagine reindeers as babies but they did start off as these cute spotted fawns. Yes, even Santa’s reindeers were little Bambis, too!

Baby reindeers are born with white spots and seriously innocent eyes, hence the phrase “doe eyes.” These white spots help camouflage them from predators. These are especially helpful when their mothers leave them to forage for food. As they grow older, they shed off the spots and eventually grow into their antlers.

A life-like deer with antlers may seem a little overwhelming to some people, especially small children. So incorporating an innocent-looking fawn into your Christmas decorations will make it more adorable in kids’ eyes. They’re perfect as companions to decorations with reindeers and Santa’s sleigh or as part of the animals in the manger of life-sized nativity scenes.
