Giant Australotitan cooperensis dinosaur (15m long)
When designing giant dinosaurs such as the Australotitan Cooperensis, we take account of all the research and analysis by palaeontologists who pieced together the story of these ancient creatures. Paleontologists, fossil preparators, geologists and volunteers spent 17 years identifying that the Australotitan cooperensis is a unique Australian species.
The story of the Australotitan cooperensis
- Fossils of this giant dinosaur were found in the Eromanga area, a few hundred kilometres from Cameron Corner in Queensland’s southwest.
- The Australotitan is just one of many dinosaurs identified in the past few decades in Australia. Researchers say Queensland is quickly establishing itself as the dinosaur capital of the nation.
- All these finds help to piece together evidence that tells the changing story of Queensland, hundreds of millions of years in the making. Queensland Museum palaeontologist Scott Hocknull believes the Eromanga area is only just beginning to reveal its prehistoric secrets.
- Comparing its bones to the bones of other species from Queensland and globally was a painstaking task. 3D technology was used to analyse each of the bones while documenting this process.
- The Australotitan dinosaur could have weighed up to 74 tonnes – or about nine African elephants. This is enormous, but we also offer a scaled-down version that is easier to move around and still impressive.
