Twists of fate with Baldacchino architecture and Large Bernini Columns
Here is a twist from the typical straight-lined columns. Named from the famous architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini who is largely known for working on St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, the Bernini Column mirrors the Baldacchino, a bronze canopy by Bernini. The spectacular canopy is supported by twisted columns made of marble and is called “Solomonicas”. Because of the humongous spiral shafts of the Baldacchino, foundations reaching a depth of 427 centimetres were dug to stabilize the weight of the canopy.
Unlike the Baldacchino, the Bernini Column in Large is polished in a classy roman stone finish and does not require digging all the way to the centre of the earth. It has the architectural Composite Order charm through the acanthus leaves and volutes adorning the column’s capital as well as the floral details near the base.
The striking spiral column would be perfect for garden weddings as it is also weather-resistant and durable because of its handcrafted fibreglass material. So do not just take the straight path, explore twists and spirals such as the Bernini Column to add character to the milestone event.
