Thorny Devil with base plate. Ideal for Playgrounds due to the stable base plate.
The original piece for the National Botanical Gardens was not painted but was negatively coloured in a build-up of semi-translucent Gelcoat layers, which was then heavily reinforced with fibreglass whilst still in its silicone mould. This Technique “bakes” the colour deep into the laminate and is a superior finish to traditionally painted fibreglass sculptures. It is made from fibreglass and has an internal steel armature.
This unique Australian desert reptile is larger than life-size replica and truly captures the essence of the original thorny devil found in our harsh Australian outback. The rows of curved spikes on this thorny devil sculpture have been rounded off whilst still appearing to be “spiky” and provide ideal grab points to aid in young children climbing on board. The false head and its unique mottled red colouration used to camouflage itself in its red sanded habitat are two of its striking and admiral traits to defend itself against its predators. It has been hand-painted and enlarged 3 x its natural size to capture the full display of its characteristics. Natureworks giant thorny devil has a durable gel coat finish and reinforced with fibreglass and an internal steel armature. Its sturdiness makes it a great choice if you’re looking for a lasting climb and play centrepiece for childcare centres, resorts, tourist offices, Visual merchandising, landscape architects and Australian animal enthusiasts. Note: this Thorny Devil is available with or without a base plate
