Designed and fabricated to suit the playground and tourism industry

The original piece for the National Botanical Gardens was not painted but was negatively coloured in a build-up of semi-translucent Gelcoat layers, which was then heavily reinforced with fibreglass whilst still in its silicone mould. This Technique “bakes” the colour deep into the laminate and is a superior finish to traditionally painted fibreglass sculptures. It is made from fibreglass and has an internal steel armature.

The rows of curved spikes on this thorny devil sculpture have been rounded off whilst still appearing to be “spiky” and provide ideal grab points to aid in young children climbing on board.
