Carpet Python Snake – full 3D Sculpture
Facts about Carpet Pythons
- Carpet pythons can grow up to 4 metres long, but most are around 2.5 m
- They can be found throughout Australia (except in Tasmania) and in New Guinea
- Carpet pythons are well camouflaged, with a blotchy pattern that allows them to hide in trees, logs and crevices
- They are non-venomous – they suffocate their prey and swallow it whole – but they do have sharp teeth that can inflict a painful bite
- Pythons mainly eat small animals such as birds, possums, rats and lizards
- Their ability to swallow prey whole is due to the two halves of their upper and lower jaws working independently. This allows them to swallow prey larger in diameter than the snake’s body.
The python – friend or foe?
Many people are scared of pythons – maybe due to a fear of being attacked and slowly swallowed whole? Rest assured, it is extremely rare for a python to swallow a person, but it is possible! If you’re curious, read how a giant python swallowed a woman in Indonesia.
Although adult humans are too big for the average python to swallow, they have been known to eat family pets such as cats, small dogs and birds. They are found in urban settings as well as natural environments, generally co-existing peacefully with humans. Some people even keep them as pets (with the appropriate registration and conditions).
Love them or fear them, snakes such as carpet pythons help maintain a healthy ecosystem and environment. Sculptures like this help people appreciate the beauty of reptiles and learn about the python’s role in natural ecosystems.
Snake sculpture options and variations
We can custom design and fabricate other species of snake, or adjust poses to suit different uses. Another option is to paint the sculpture in different colours to suggest a certain snake type, promote a brand or reflect a cultural concept. For example, see the custom-painted Dreamtime Serpent Sculpture that became a Queensland school’s cultural symbol.
The sculpture can be made from fibreglass or glass fibre-reinforced cement (GFRC), depending on usage. If required, we can also provide educational or branded signage. The sculpture is ideal for playgrounds and nature play spaces but also makes a dramatic feature for a nature-themed mini-golf course, reptile business or educational display.
If you’re looking for ideas, see our reptiles catalogue – you will be amazed at how true to life the sculptures are, with highly detailed skin, shapes and features.
