Oversized Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat – Climber
In the town of Thallon – Queensland you can find “William the Wombat” – a giant sculpture 2m high and 3.5m long.
Some of the earliest specimens of the northern hairy-nosed wombat have been found in the local area. William has now become a welcoming attraction for tourist and the local community.
This natural history connection will continue to highlight the importance of protecting our local fauna.
The northern hairy-nosed wombat is on the critically endangered list and with the local community awareness being heightened with the installation of “William being a significant play on landmark/icon there is hope to protect the species for future generations to admire and observe their unique role and importance in creating a healthy varied landscape.
