Iconic Australian lighthorse statue – 7ft Bronze
The battle of Beersheba took place on the 31st of October 1917 and involved the now-famous charge by the Australian Lighthorse. As we approach the centenary of this decisive battle we have produced this iconic statue “Charge at Beersheba” to commemorate this significant event in Australia’s Military History.
Magnificent donation to Samford Museum
David Joffe, and his team, at Natureworks, H, have made a most generous donation of a life-size bronze-finished sculpture of a charging Light Horseman at the Battle of Beersheba. The time has been perfect as we have just marked the centenary of the charge, which occurred on 31st October 1917.
When working with Nigel Allsoppof the Mudgeeraba Light Horse Museum, David was so inspired by the story of this Battle that he decided to create this magnificent memorial to the brave soldiers and their horses. The soldiers of the 4th and 12th Regiments, instead of dismounting in front of the enemy as was the usual practice, continued the charge, jumping over the un-wired enemy trenches, thus confusing the Turks and resulting in the protection of the water wells so critical for the survival of horse and rider in the extensive desert region.
