The romance of bullfighting
Toro! Toro! Bullfighting was once an active physical contest where the matador challenged the bull by flourishing his cape in front of a cheering crowd. It has been one of the cultural trademarks of Spaniards. They called it “Corrida De Toros”, adapted from Roman gladiator games popular during ancient times.
Spaniards consider bullfighting a form of art and sport emotionally attached to their history and culture. However, bullfighting is now generally controversial because of its gruesome nature and harm to the bull. Our sculpture recognises the bull’s power and dignity without glorifying the act of bullfighting.
